The Last Temptation of Christ: Understanding the Messiah

The Last Temptation of Christ really is an incredible and beautiful depiction of the life of Jesus. For someone like me who often feels lost among so much information about Jesus and Christianity, it is a great way to ground me. It helps me relate to the one person I should relate to out of everyone in the Christian tradition. It’s a beautiful film and perhaps the most important depiction of Christ on film. It is for me.

Planet of the Apes: The Perfect Modern Trilogy

It’s interesting to look into these ideas. Ever since 1968 with the release of the original Planet of the Apes, the series has been exploring ideas relating to intelligence and evolution. These things go hand in hand and make up what is and will continue to be a perfectly poignant modern trilogy.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Forgotten Franchise

There is a movie series based on a ride at Disney World which is the fourteenth highest grossing franchise of all time. It brought in over 4.5 billion dollars at the worldwide box office, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards with one win, and boosted the careers of two well-known actors while vaulting another into stardom. But three years removed from the series’ final installment, no one seems to talk about it.

It’s simply fitting to see his film carried out to completion. This is a unique circumstance that is making lots of people very happy. I hope it doesn’t set a precedent for more movies or series to redone, but I really don’t think it will. It’s too singular of a movement. A movement that ultimately yielded exactly what it wanted.

Devs Functions as the Spiritual Prequel to Ex Machina

Alex Garland has been part of a good handful of excellent movies. His work is niche, but it has connected with audiences and critics alike. It’s deep, heady, and thought-provoking fare. While I think Ex Machina is Garland’s best overall work to date, Devs, his recent venture into television miniseries, is his most philosophically engaging piece.

My Top 5 Leading Actor Performances of 2019

As the Oscars approach, awards chatter is coming to a close. We’ve seen mostly the same people win acting awards this whole season, but I think it’s time to give recognition to some performances which have fallen by the wayside at the expense of the favorites.
